Job Description:

Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is seeking a Custodial Services Worker to perform general housekeeping functions, assisting with special setups, and serving on the college-wide emergency team. The Custodial Service Worker ensures a clean and safe environment within college facilities for students, faculty, and staff to support an appropriate environment conducive to learning.

Although the position is assigned to the Downtown Campus, the responsibilities of the position are college-wide and the incumbent will be called upon to work anywhere within J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.

This role is considered "Essential Personnel," and a first responder to inclement weather and other emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of custodial operations and industry standards.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of janitorial, custodial, housekeeping services, and sanitizing techniques.
  • Skills in using housekeeping equipment such as vacuum cleaner, buffers and scrubbing machine.
  • Some knowledge and skill in proper cleaning techniques as well as stripping, waxing, buffing floors and shampooing carpets (dry and wet methods).
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply proper safety techniques to be used in day-to-day housekeeping operations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs and move heavy objects; stand for extended periods of time; and to tolerate contact with a variety of cleaning products and solutions.
  • Ability to climb ladders without assistance.
