The Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports, a division of Athletics at the University of Virginia, is seeking qualified applicants for professional and customer-centric part-time Custodians. Custodians perform consistent entry-level housekeeping services in assigned areas to meet given standards using safe work practices and proper housekeeping techniques. Custodians will be assigned a primary work location (one of Intramural-Recreational Sports recreation facilities--Aquatic & Fitness Center or North Grounds Recreation Center) and will occasionally perform duties in multiple buildings for daily roles, backup support, special projects, and to support special events. The key to success will be maintaining positive working relationships with customers, peers, staff, students, supervisors, and leadership.
Work hours for these positions will be defined during the hiring process but are generally mid-afternoon to evening shifts that may include late evening, weekday, and/or weekend hours. Once standard work hours are established, daily work schedule will occasionally vary, driven by operations to accommodate special event demands, deep cleaning, special projects, backup support needs, etc.
Duties Include:
Perform daily housekeeping services in assigned areas, including vacuuming, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, removing trash, and other assigned tasks.
Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment and keep inventories of supplies, requesting additional supplies as needed.
Report all repairs and pest control needs.
Report any housekeeping-related violations by guests or staff.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Compensation- Starts at $16.50/hr with evening and weekend hours required.
Includes free gym membership with access to all Intramural-Recreational Sports facilities.
Satisfactory performance could lead to a bonus .

Qualifications: Education: A high school diploma is preferred, but not necessary. Experience: Some experience performing custodian or housekeeping-related work is necessary. Commercial, residential, or university cleaning experience is preferred. The ability to follow established policies and procedures and adhere to regulatory guidelines in daily work, follow directions, work effectively as part of a team, and communicate thoughtfully and appropriately is necessary.
Physical Demands: The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties as a custodian, such as dusting, mopping, etc. This job requires a range of continual movement including traveling, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, twisting and lifting.
