The University of Virginia Darden School of Business, one of the world's leading business schools, seeks a Data Analytics Developeron the Strategic IT Data & Analytics team. This techno functional role conducts both business analysis and development activities. The ideal candidate is committed and collaborative, able to understand and synthesize business needs and success drivers into transformational dashboards and reports. The ideal candidate is also a teacher, training designated users on the distributed team on data analytics development and best practices.
This position is located in-person in Charlottesville, VA with some flexibility for hybrid work.
Specific Responsibilities:
Business Analysis
Translate business requirements to technical resources and translating technical documentation into terminology & language understood by the business.
Data Analysis
Explore large, complex, & loosely defined datasets to create & develop dashboards.
Requirements Gathering
Lead business analysis & requirements gathering activities to capture & document data user stories, use cases, workflows & metrics that inform success for the Darden community.
Create requirements/specifications for ETL developers to build data pipelines.
Data Modeling
Develop data models to make data usable & value-added for analytics.
Develop and maintain tables and views in SQL to support data transformation and data shaping.
Power BI Development
Develop and administer Power BI deployment pipelines.
Maintain the Power BI security framework.
Relationship Management
Work collaboratively as a trusted partner with team members in supported business units to maintain existing & deliver new analytics solutions.
Teach & advise team members in supported business on analytics development & practices.
Lead community gatherings for Power BI developers focused on tips & best practices.
Education and Professional Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, Business Administration or related discipline needed with at least five years of professional work experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Knowledge and experience working with Power BI or other business intelligence tools
Knowledge and experience working with SQL
Ability to design, document, and communicate models
Comfortable working in an agile, iterative development process
Self-motivated & self-managing, with strong organizational skills
Knowledge and experience working with R and/or Python preferred
Knowledge and experience working with API & web services preferred
Knowledge and experience in statistical modeling preferred
