The Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT)at the University of Virginia is seeking a Data Systems Developer 2 or 3 to join our team in Charlottesville, VA. The Data Systems Developer supports clinical research efforts through the design, build, test, maintenance and integration of in-house and external applications and systems. Primary assignments are in support of clinical research projects and business operations. The Data Systems Developer works closely with research coordinators, data operations specialists, programmers, and engineers to provide system support.
Data Systems Developer employees support the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core university functions. This is achieved by developing, monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing software and associated hardware and operating systems. They provide functional and empirical analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of systems, including hardware, utility software, development software, and diagnostic software. They also provide system integration and security plans and implementation.
CDT was originally established in 2010 in association with the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences Behavioral Sciences, Endocrinology, and the School of Engineering, and during 2017, was formally established as an independent Center. CDT has pursued a path to advance the use of technology, including analytics, to allow improved management, monitoring, and therapies for patients with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Now, CDT is a recognized world leader in the technological treatment of diabetes and a hub of an international research network of leading U.S. institutions (Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Mayo Clinic, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine) and worldwide groups in Italy, France, Holland, and Argentina.
**This position will be a hybrid role requiring a few days in the office**
Job responsibilities include:
Work with functional counterparts to design and develop configurations, complex workflows, and system integration procedures. Document deployed systems and their integration points. Create test plans and perform regression testing and white box testing as modules are integrated into the end systems.
Formulate and define specifications for applications or modify/maintain existing applications.
Assist with development of overall data flow process development, review, and maintenance in support of clinical research studies.
Participate in the initial configuration and ongoing enhancements to research data system architecture; assist with application upgrades; application tuning; support data conversion processes; development of interfaces; assistance with performance and load testing; and support of the application security environment.
Design, code, test, debug, and document programs and data flows. Participate in the development of test strategies, for devices, systems, and protocol specific data collection systems. Design and develop software to automate, monitor, test, deploy, and support systems. Perform regular tests of the high availability, disaster recovery, security, and backup processes.
Maintain and administer research data systems (both internal and external); monitor user-access; review usage and billing charges; review use and suggest and implement system and process changes for cost reduction.
Provide ongoing technical assistance to customers (primarily internal) regarding applications and participate in upgrades and system enhancement projects. May assist other programmers, engineers, or clinical research staff to effectively utilize the systems developed.
Train, serve as a resource, and provide guidance on non-routine problems, processes, and policies.
Implement disaster recovery procedures and ensure that the system meets high availability standards.
Assist clinical research staff with the execution of study protocols as needed.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Data Systems Developer 2:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline Experience: At least one year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Data Systems Developer 3:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline Experience: At least three years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Requirements:
Cloud experience (AWS preferred)
Experience with databases (both SQL and NonSQL)
Experience with secure or sensitive data and associated regulations (HIPAA, FERPA, FINRA, etc.)
Experience with O365
Experience using UML, DFD, or ERD
Experience with clinical EDC, eCRF, or similar
Experience working in an academic environment and/or with Clinical research environment
Experience with Diabetes or Diabetes research.
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
