Job Description
The incumbent in this role supports the day-to-day IT operations needs of the research institute. As a member of the IT team, works to implement policies, troubleshoot problems and maintain accurate documentation at multiple office locations. Provides direct assistance to users with all aspects of computer operations including computer setup, instructional training, conference room support and disaster recovery. Assists with testing, implementation and improvement of security, recovery systems and general IT operations. The incumbent provides hardware/software installation, technical support and user training during peak hours. Monitors laptop and desktop for problems. The Desktop Technician will provide complex consulting based services with users to determine hardware/software/system specifications. Additionally, this role involve documentation, analysis, and testing of computer systems and related programs. Performs inventory assessment of building workstations. Reformat, configure and install operating systems, software and patches on building workstations. Maintains detailed records of job status in Help Desk Tracking system.
Required Qualifications
Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Windows computer networks, OS X and desktop and laptop hardware required. Demonstrated working knowledge of network protocols and other hardware such as printers and scanners. Previous experience troubleshooting software and hardware system errors and network installation/maintenance. Must have a strong work ethic and organization skills to work independently with minimal supervision and adapt quickly to changing computer environments.Ability to communicate and interact with diverse clientele. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment instructing users in the operation of hardware and software packages.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference given for experience with advanced computer security, prior help desk work, inventory management, Adobe products, system deployment tools, OSX, Linux and Windows system administration, and Windows Domain management. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or similar field or equivalent experience and training.
