Associate Professor or Professor
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia is accepting applications for a tenured or tenure-eligible faculty member. The position serves as Director of Basic Science and Translational Research for the department, responsible for the overall development and expansion of the department's research program including collaboration with investigators from the School of Medicine and the University. The selected candidate will mentor junior faculty and post-doctoral personnel and oversee educational symposia and basic science lectures to foster research collaboration and educate trainees in fellowships and residencies. The incumbent will also be responsible for program administration and must have experience directing and overseeing financial and other administrative functions.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have a M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree with a track record of successful research as a Principal Investigator with funding support from Federal funding agencies, such as a NIH RO1 or equivalent grants. Experience with musculoskeletal research in the areas of bone biology, cellular genetics, biochemistry, biomechanics or biomedical engineering applied to the musculoskeletal system is required. Three years of related work experience is also required.
Relevant experience in basic science or clinical translational research with a potential for continued success in academic medicine is required for this tenure-eligible position. A record of scholarship and a national reputation in education and research is also required for this position.
Rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with experience and achievement. This position will remain open to applications until filled.

Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
