The Department of Pediatrics in the University of Virginia’s (UVA) School of Medicine is seeking candidates for a Director of Clinical Operations and Financial Analysis. This individual will support divisional operations through data-driven financial planning and analysis. Key responsibilities include supporting pro forma development for new and existing programs, and enhancing operational workflows. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in healthcare financial analysis, with a focus on supporting strategic decision-making and long-term financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis and Revenue Cycle Liaison (30%)
  • Conduct financial analyses to identify trends, challenges, and areas for improvement within the Department.
  • Prepare and share reports to support transparency and informed decision-making regarding financial and operational performance.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Department and Health System revenue cycle teams to support timely resolution of billing and reimbursement issues.
  • Contribute to business plan development in coordination with Health System leadership.
  • Identify opportunities for coding education through data analysis and targeted audits; share findings with Health System partners for appropriate follow-up.


Operational Automation and Training (10%)
  • Identify opportunities for workflow automation and administrative streamlining across the Department.
  • Lead implementation and training efforts to improve staff adoption of automation tools.
  • Partner with institutional stakeholders to ensure departmental alignment with best practices in automation and training.


Epic Systems Support (20%)
  • Complete Epic training to build expertise in clinical documentation and financial workflow integration.
  • Provide support to faculty and staff on Epic-related operational or financial issues.
  • Apply Epic knowledge to improve documentation accuracy and optimize revenue capture processes.


Divisional Leadership (30%)
  • Serve as the primary administrative partner to Division leadership, supporting operational, financial, and strategic functions.
  • Coordinate clinical, research, and academic activities within the Division to ensure alignment with Department and institutional goals.
  • Assist with faculty and staff onboarding, effort tracking, and compliance with institutional policies.
  • Manage divisional budgets, monitor expenditures, and support annual financial planning in coordination with the Department’s financial team.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to address space, staffing, and operational needs.
  • Facilitate communication between the Division and other Departmental or institutional partners.
  • Support the development of divisional reports, metrics, and dashboards to inform leadership and guide performance improvement.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant subject
  • Experience: At least seven years of experience in a financial discipline, likely with supervisory experience. 11 years of relevant/finance experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Licensure: May hold CPA or other advanced financial certification.

Physical Demands:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
