Job Description

The Public Health Program in the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech seeks a Director of Community-Engaged Experiences to support students in our MPH degree program, which is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. Reporting to the MPH Director, this position will lead the program’s efforts to prepare our students to enter the public health workforce with professionalism and practice-based experience.
Specifically, this position will have administrative responsibility for all aspects of the MPH practicum experience, including developing practice-based placements, matching students with placements on the basis of their career goals, monitoring student performance during the placement, and overseeing the delivery and assessment of the required work products. The ideal candidate for this position will have a demonstrated commitment to building strong, mutually beneficial relationships with a broad range of community partners. As the position will also provide career counseling, familiarity with public health career pathways is also essential.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Public Health, Population Health, or related field
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, and community members
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
• Experience with database development/management and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity and working knowledge with academic program accreditation, particularly regarding the demonstration and integration of practice-based competencies
• Demonstrated commitment to building mutually beneficial academic-community partnerships
• Experience setting and upholding expectations for students regarding professionalism
• Demonstrated ability to teach or co-teach courses related to professional development and community-engaged experiences
