Job Duties:
INFECTION CONTROL:
-Monitors and evaluates all infection control practices and procedures for the facility. Manages Antibiotic Stewardship program, ensuring compliance by staff and providers. Makes daily infection control rounds on units and offers updates to the Director of Nursing.
-Acts as facility subject matter expert, reporting to DON and the Administer as needed. Monitors, tracks, and identifies trends and takes appropriate action to prevent the spread of infection to residents and staff. Monitors residents requiring isolation to ensure established precautions are maintained. Develops and implements an effective infection control orientation program for all new hires. Stays current on CMS regulations regarding Infection Preventionist and Antibiotic Stewardship programs and guidelines.
-Conducts TB monitoring program for all residents and employees. Educates and offers various vaccinations to staff. Tracks staff and resident vaccination rates per regulations and guidelines. Monitors and tracks all employee exposure incidents and ensures appropriate lab work, treatment and education is offered per OSHA guidelines. Assist the Directors of Environmental Services and Food Service in developing infection control procedures for their departments. Monitors operations and interacts with all departments, and coordinates Infection Control related training for all staff. Participates as a member of the Safety Committee. -Enforces safety rules and regulations and assures that all work related incidents are reported and investigated in a timely and accurate manner. Participates as a member of the Quality Improvement committee, submitting monthly monitoring.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT:
-Monitors and evaluates performance of all nursing staff during tours of duty. Expectations are clear, well communicated, and related to the goals and objectives of the department or unit.
-Performance issues are addressed and documented as they occur. Receives and gives daily reports, make rounds, and conduct unit surveys and audits. Initiate, coordinate, or recommend corrective action to resolve observed or reported resident care, procedural, or physical problems.
-In the absence of the DON, the Nursing Supervisor will be responsible for Administrative and operational decisions of the facility. Coordinates with physicians and ancillary department in assessment of resident needs and treatments. Required to make immediate operational decisions regarding emergency care and resolving department staffing problems.
-May function as a Charge Nurse if necessary.
OTHER DUTIES:
-Performs other duties as may be assigned that are within the Nursing department’s mission and as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility.
-May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
-Serves in the Nurse on-call rotation.
Minimum Qualifications
-Current State of Virginia RN license.
-Supervisory experience.
-One year in the nursing field with a genuine interest in the area of infection control.
-Experience working in a skilled nursing facility is mandatory
-Current or pursuing Infection Preventionist certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
-CPR certification required upon hire or willing to obtain.
