The Director of the UVA Public Service Pathways coordinates with numerous university partners to ensure the successful delivery of and sustainable growth of the UVA Public Service Pathways program. This broad and impactful program, housed in the office of the Vice Provost for Academic Outreach , develops student competencies for effective and responsible public service and aims to build a culture of service across the student body through specialty programming and community-building. The Director will take the lead of a highly collaborative team already in place, including representatives from the Office of the Provost , the Office of Student Affairs , the Career Center , the Karsh Institute for Democracy , and Madison House , the university-adjacent student volunteer center.
The Director is charged to pursue and maintain strong working relationships with pathway advisory committees of content experts, the student advisory council, the Alumni Association, and other program aligned university partners and also to recommend to the Vice Provost strategic opportunities for new collaboration with mission-aligned units and partners. The program is currently in its first year and will be fully operational by the 2025-26 academic year. Once the undergraduate program is fully implemented, the director will help implement the expansion of the program to graduate students. The Director will oversee all aspects of the program under the direction of the Vice Provost for Academic Outreach. The Director is also charged with remaining abreast of best practices in public service in higher education.
Decisions made independently:
All decisions related to the collaborative implementation of the program, the coordination of all team partners, and annual restructuring of programs based on learnings from prior years. The Director also oversees all communications and marketing, ensures the smooth delivery of bi-monthly newsletters, the successful management of the program’s online platform, and successful partnership with external assessments to ensure high levels of student engagement and impact.
Decisions made with approval:
The Senior Academic Program Officer has authority over high-level visioning and budgets for the above only in concert with the Vice Provost for Academic Outreach.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Project manager and event planning experience.
Experience with managing multiple projects at various stages at the same time from inception through implementation.
Highly organized professional with great discretion, solid customer service skills, and keen attention to details.
Excellent communicator with the ability to market and communicate educational programs.
Networking and people skills are vastly important for the success of this position.
Proven record of taking the initiative and problem-solving.

Minimum Requirements
Education: advanced degree
Experience: 4 years of experience working with students in higher education required
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This position is approved for some hybrid work, but located in Charlottesville, VA.

The anticipated start date is late February 2023. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $80,000 - $110,000 commensurate with education and experience. This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
