Job Duties

•Provides training to new employees in the receiving and transmitting of all information promptly, accurately and in a professional manner.
•Makes entries and inquiries and retrieves information from Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) in accordance with established procedures.
•Prepares and enters the daily activity report and updates the schedule to ensure strength report accuracy.
•Receives and disseminates mail messages.
•Promptly and accurately receives and disseminates complaints and inquiries from citizens and other sources.
•Contacts and request services of wreckers, emergency medical services to include Med flight, fire services and other law enforcement agencies promptly and tactfully.
•Maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
•Adheres to established attendance policies and safety procedures.
•Makes entries and inquiries and retrieves information through the Virginia Criminal Information Network/National Criminal Information Network (VCIN/NCIC) and the National Law Enforcement Teletype System (NLETS) to be disseminated by radio and telephone.
•Files messages and maintains the criminal history dissemination log book.
•May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
•May be required to assist the Department or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Minimum Qualifications

•Must be willing to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends.
•Considerable knowledge of geographical area and locations of safety and emergency personnel and equipment within the area.
•Considerable knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to emergency communications to include radio codes.
•Considerable knowledge of communications equipment and procedures.
•Demonstrated skill in keyboarding to include Microsoft software applications.
•Demonstrated ability to work in areas of high stress; to multi-task; to lead staff; to provide training and formal instruction; to exercise judgment under stress; to ensure safety guidelines and regulations are followed during emergency situations; and to prepare reports.
•High school diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position required.
•Applicant must have or be eligible to apply for VCIN certification which requires either U.S. citizenship or having been a lawful resident of the U.S. for the past 10 consecutive years.
