Virginia’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking to fill a Deputy Director position in its Tax Services area. In this position, you will be responsible for the administration and operation of the following programs and functions:
• Motor Vehicle Fuels Sales Tax
• Fuels Tax Refund Program
• Virginia Dyed Fuel Program
• Fuel Tax collections to include Fuel Tax Audit Assessments
• Civil penalty assessments and collections for violations of fuels tax laws
• Taxpayer appeals of agency assessments and adverse agency actions
• Bankruptcies and collections of past due revenue
Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. In addition, DMV serves a wide array of businesses, including dealers, fuels tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Minimum Qualifications
• Working knowledge of managerial and supervisory principles and practices
• Working knowledge of operational and accounting principles and practices
• Experience managing a broad range of tax and financial functions
• Experience advising, directing, and training others in their work
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience interpreting, explaining, preparing, and applying laws, regulations, and policies and procedures to analyze complex tax scenarios and develop tax policy
Preferred Qualifications:
• College degree in legal studies, taxation, or related degree
• License or certification in Law
• Experience working in a legal setting
