The Manager of ECMO Services is an experienced and knowledgeable clinician that has demonstrated a commitment to quality, excellent patient care and leadership within the care community. With the Director of Perfusion and ECMO Services, the ECMO Services Manager serves as a lead clinical and technical resource for the department. The ECMO Services Manager must have a thorough understanding of adult and pediatric cardiac, pulmonary, vascular surgery, organ transplantation procedures and circulatory support theory.
The ECMO Services Manager considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, knowledge and skill of team members, as well as the cost of planning and delivering care. They must demonstrate awareness and understanding of the clinical care required for patients in the medical center. They will embrace and support the multidisciplinary and faceted patient care approach along the care continuum for the ECMO department.
The ECMO Services Manager will be involved in product evaluation. They will assist with program development and the implementation of new technology. They will provide direct clinical leadership to the department. They will participate in clinical rounding, team meetings, M&M reviews and other multidisciplinary teams, as assigned by the Director.

The ECMO Services Manager will participate in the educational enhancement process of team members, including annual competency compliance. They will also foster an environment within the teams that leads to new initiatives and workflows that benefit the team, the medical center or the field of ECMO. This position is in 24/7 support of the ECMO department.

Departmental Functions :
  • Performs those functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement and/or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and/or circulatory system of the patient.
  • Manages fiscal responsibilities of the ECMO service.
  • Ensures policies are current and are reflective of the values held by the Medical Center.
  • Arranges continuing education and participation to facilitate staff development.
  • Maintains employee engagement and readiness for excellent patient care.
  • Develops communication processes within the ECMO department that effectively disseminates information pertaining to metrics, benchmarking data.
  • Responsible for the development, maintenance and adherence of policies and procedures.
  • Actively participates in growth of the program and implementation of new initiatives.

Leadership Qualities :
  • Comply with HIPPAA and Medical Center policies regarding patient and staff information.
  • Promotes communication/coordination between the ECMO and Perfusion departments.
  • Facilitates LEAN processes within the department using MESS techniques.
  • Ability to display leadership and professionalism during stressful scenarios.
  • Demonstrates leadership in a team environment.
  • Collaborates in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ensures cost-effective use of program resources including equipment, supplies and personnel.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and ability to organize time and priorities of self and others.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet timelines set forth by senior leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

Staffing Management :
  • Responsible for ensuring daily staffing reflects patent acuity levels in multiple locations throughout the hospital.
  • Responsible for staff scheduling and authorization of time off, overtime, and leaves of absence.
  • Fosters ongoing professionalism amongst team members and encourages others to take informal leader roles during project development and implementation.
  • Ensures annual competency standards for ECMO Specialist are achieved.
  • Responsible for recruitment of new ECMO specialist.
  • Responsible for yearly evaluations of staff, including assisting team members with goal setting.
  • Responsible for the education and competency review of new ECMO staff, per ELSO standards.

Project and Quality Management :
  • Demonstrates a commitment to quality and excellence.
  • Participates in the development of new programs and initiatives utilizing LEAN methodology.
  • Promote growth of the ECMO intra-hospital transport program.
  • Ensures that all Quality improvement (QI) data is current and documented appropriately.
  • Promotes the Medical Center as an ECMO center of Excellence and ensures the program is aligned with Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) guidelines and recommendations.

Position Compensation Range: $130,416.00 - $208,665.60 Annual

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Perfusion, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or similar preferred. If licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse - Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from an accredited program required.

Experience: 5 years relevant ECMO experience required. Direct Adult and Pediatric experience required

Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist or board certified Perfusionist, as applicable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
