Position Summary:
The Educational Systems Specialist provides support for the effective integration of learning technologies and the learning management system for undergraduate medical education at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine (SOM). The incumbent assists with the oversight of the existing learning management system and will support the implementation and roll-out of a new LMS, resolving complex issues independently. The position collaborates with all stakeholders to ensure strategic management of the UME curriculum.
Core Responsibilities:
Provide instructional design support to facult and staff in the SOM.
Provide high quality end user support by employing excellent customer service skills and technical expertise to troubleshoot, analyze, and respond to various LMS technical issues.
Manage knowledge base and documentation of LMS system processes for SOM.
Develop instructional materials and train stakeholders on the use and implementation in systems including, but not limited to: the LMS, assessment systems, and other learning technologies used by SOM.
Build course/clerkship templates, evaluations, gradebook, assessments within the LMS using standardized processes.
Act as a liaison with SOMTech as the representative of the Office of Medical Education (OME) to develop additional LMS supplemental tools, workflows, and backend integrations.
Serve as initial point of contact for students and interface with VCU Health to ensure appropriate access to the EHR and coordinate training.
Stay current in curriculum, accreditation standards, and issues and activities that affect program success by participating in appointed workgroups and committees.
Serve as a member of the LMS implementation team and initial point of contact for all faculty and staff LMS support issues.
Extract data from educational systems and generate data visualizations.
Support assessment administration including setup and management of the assessment software/systems, development of resources, and training of faculty and staff.
Provide operational support to ensure that strategic goals and established project timelines are met.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Hiring Standards:
Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Demonstrated experience with learning management systems and online learning technologies
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new services, policies, processes, and procedures
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to work efficiently in a team environment and provide direct administrative support as needed
Ability to manage academic processes within and across academic unites
Capacity to work creatively in both collaborative and independent contexts
Ability to manage and execute highly complex or specialized projects or processes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated relationship building skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all levels and with a varied group of stakeholders
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
