Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

The mission of the Facilities Services Department is to maintain and extend the useful life of existing facilities and infrastructures, as well as to plan and provide stewardship for new facilities and infrastructures in a manner which forwards the college’s mission.

The Electrician repairs, maintains, and installs electrical equipment on all Campus locations and to provide electrical support to the main campus electrical shop at the journeyman level to establish a safe, comfortable, and conducive learning and working environment.
Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess or within 6-months of a valid Virginia State Journeyman Electrician Certificate. Must possess a valid Virginia State Driver’s license. Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring. Multi-year relevant work experience.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of switching devices, transformers, lighting devices, disconnect switches, etc.
· Journeyman level knowledge of Commercial Electrical equipment and systems to include 120V/208V/240V single phase and 120V/240V/277V/480V 3 phase.
· Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment

Skills:
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
· Excellent customer service skills

Ability to:
· Read blueprints. · Use hand tools and power tools.
· Effectively work with a diverse team.
· Manage multiple tasks and prioritize as appropriate.
· Work at all campuses.

Experience working in a higher education setting.
