Supports the Department of Corrections’ (VADOC) mission, goals and objectives through the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems in an adult correctional facility.
Performs preventive and corrective maintenance to maintain the integrity of the existing structures and furnishings. Performs advanced electrical work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the facility’s electrical systems. Supervises and instructs inmate workers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the facility’s electrical systems. Keys data into the Total Maintenance System (TMS) for preventative and inventory purposes. May respond to emergency callbacks for service on a rotating basis.
High School Diploma or equivalent. Progressively responsible experience working in the electrical trade. Demonstrated ability to install, diagnose, repair, and maintain complex electrical and electronic systems. Working knowledge of related governmental codes and standards relating to the trade. Demonstrated skill in the use of tools and supplies related to the trade. Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise the work of others. Demonstrated ability to keep narrative and statistical records relating to the maintenance and repair of equipment.
Ability to use a computer, keep accurate and complete records. Ability to perform work with minimal margin of error and work independently with little or no supervision. Ability to communicate effectively; work as an effective team member; and to receive and execute instructions from the immediate supervisor and /or lead worker. Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 75 pounds or more; to maneuver materials up and down stairs; to climb and work from elevated workstations such as ladders and scaffolds; and to work for long periods of time standing, walking reaching, bending, pushing/pulling. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions including extreme temperatures.
Prefer graduation from an electrician’s apprenticeship program or vocational training program is preferred. Multi- trades experience. Previous correctional experience. Master Electrician certification or licensed as an Electrician.
