Job Description: Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Electrician / Trades Technician III (00069). The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and support for electrical components on building mechanical systems, infrastructure systems, energy generation, fire alarms, elevators, and distribution systems. This includes troubleshooting, diagnostics, installation, repair, programming, commissioning, and related work on building automation and energy management systems (BAS/EMS) and instrumentation and control systems (I&C). The selected candidate will be responsible for installing all electrical equipment for the university. This position is considered emergency personnel, which requires the selected candidate to report to work or be called in due to inclement weather, an emergency, staff shortage, etc.
This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform corrective and preventive electrical maintenance as assigned through work orders, routine inspections, or supervisor requests.
- Monitor system conditions and respond appropriately to alarms, troubles, and system malfunctions
- All duties must be performed with minimum disruption to campus activities whenever possible
- Quality of work must be performed at the Journeyman Craftsman level
- Ensure all work complies with applicable local and national electrical codes.
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Valid VA driver's license required
- Proficient in troubleshooting electrical systems, devices, equipment, and sensors
- Ability to develop and implement test procedures within the confines of the university safety policy and NFPA 70E
- Ability to perform maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on electrical systems ranging from 480 volts to low-voltage control circuits, including all associated components
- Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and motor control centers (MCCs)
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings (including schematics), block diagrams, flow charts, service manuals, and wiring diagrams, and to develop electrical, mechanical, and controls-related field sketches
- Highly skilled in the use of electrical testing devices
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and solve practical problems in electrical systems and automated controls
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Must possess a self-motivated mindset while working independently without constant supervision
- Must possess the ability to identify code violations and take the appropriate actions to remediate any infractions
- Must possess extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 110
- Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more
- Ability to climb and work from elevated work stations, such as ladders and scaffolds
- Ability to perform work associated with being an electrician, which may include, but is not limited to: standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, pushing, or pulling for extended periods
- Basic computer skills
- Must have the ability to routinely interact with a diverse student body
- Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service
- Virginia Journeyman Electrician License preferred, or ability to obtain within 12 months
- Virginia Master Electrician license, OSHA 40, and first aid/CPR are highly desirable
