Embedded Counselor-Residential Well-being

The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center invites applications for a mental health clinician to serve as the Embedded Counselor in the Department of Housing and Residence Life at Virginia Tech. The clinician will work both in the Cook Counseling Center and in the residence halls providing evening and weekend crisis coverage, outreach and consultation to residence life staff, outreach to students living in the community, as well as follow up coordination with the residents seen during the on call hours. The position will report to a supervisor in the counseling center and coordinate with the managing director for their 2000 member student community.
The embedded counselor will live in a residence hall and provide after hours crisis coverage to residential students and provide planned programmatic offerings about wellness for students. The counselor will provide after hours coverage for four weeks (Monday through Thursday) during the semester and one weekend (Friday through Sunday) every 5 weeks. The counselor will attend weekly Cook Counseling staff meetings and small group supervision as well as weekly meetings for the well-being team.

• Applicants will include license-eligible social workers and licensed school counselors who have completed courses in mental health conditions and interventions
• Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions

• Experience in working with undergraduate and graduate students
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
• Experience working in Housing and Residence Life
• Experience in outreach and educational programming, e.g., suicide prevention gate-keeper programs
