Department Summary:

Under the direction of the Employer Development Manager, the Employer Development Coordinator will manage the recruitment database, coordinate the review/approval of new employers seeking to engage with VCU, and assist in developing and leading on-campus recruitment planning with particular emphasis on student-employer engagement. They will steward relationships with employers to increase recruiting opportunities and outcomes for students, facilitate organizational visits related to employment and experiential opportunities, and evaluate employer needs to best refer them for engagement opportunities. This position also assists in efforts to maintain campus recruiting policies for students, employers, faculty and staff in accordance with professional standards.

Members of the VCU Career Services team regularly engage in professional development, including in-house and external training and conference opportunities, to make sure we are able to best serve students and alumni, to stay current with industry standards and changes, to revise programs and services to reflect trends, and to increase our office’s visibility, both at VCU and on a broader scale. 

Core Responsibilities: 

Project Management and Collaboration (45%)

  • Coordinate with the Employer & Experiential Development Team with the execution of campus career fairs. This includes, but is not limited to employer invitations, registration, day-of-fair logistics, and communications regarding career fairs.
  • Coordinate employer-related On-Campus Recruiting visits, which can include information tables, on campus interviews, classroom presentations, panel discussions, and networking events in support of engagement plans.
  • Schedule and confirm visits with employers and ensure they have all necessary information for their visit (parking passes, scheduling issues, etc.), and follow up with employers after their visit as necessary.
  • Work with Operations Coordinator and SEMSS Marketing Team, utilizing appropriate processes so that event marketing can be created and distributed to employers and students as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with other campus units productively in collaboration of VCU Career Services.
  • Implement, review, and enforce campus recruiting guidelines in conjunction with the Employer and Experiential Development Team.
  • Adhere to principles of professional conduct and ethics as outlined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), including but not limited to:
    • Engage with employer partners to promote equitable pay/wages, fair recruitment and hiring practices, mentoring and management, and professional development.

    •  Implement, review and enforce employer recruitment policies. 

    • Providing resources for all those engaged in career advising and recruitment to promote informed and responsible decision making.

 Relationship Development and Management (25%):

  • Serve as first-line communication and reception with employers and external partners through virtual, phone, and in-person mediums
  • Orient employer partners to VCU, VCU Career Services, and our Handshake system so they can make informed decisions about engagement and be prepared to effectively post and follow up on experiential and employment opportunities, actively promoting on-campus and virtual recruitment of students.
  • Disseminate information regarding new employers to other Employer & Experiential Development Team members to support individual engagement plan development based on appropriate portfolio areas.
  • Provide outstanding customer service in accordance with team standards to both internal and external customers by considering how actions or plans will affect partners; follow through on responsibilities to partners. Responds with appropriate urgency, flexibility, courtesy and good judgment to meet customer needs and resolve problems.

Technology Management (25%):

  • Work independently and with minimal errors to ensure accurate and timely entry of data, employer and posting approvals, troubleshooting, and communications with employers in the Handshake system.
  • Lead new employer account review/approval with support from EED Graduate Intern, as well as updating employer permissions, internship and experiential posting approvals in Handshake, as needed.
  • Troubleshoot employer experience with the database, answering questions in a timely and efficient manner with minimal to no support.

Supervision (5%): 

  • Directly supervise, hire, train, evaluate and provide work direction and problem solving assistance for student employees. 
  • Communicate regularly with the Front Desk Coordinator and student staff to ensure seamless experience for students and employers. 
  • Contribute actively to the development, adaptation, and implementation of the VCU Career Services Strategic Plan through collaboration and project work.

Other Position Details: 

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with up to 20% weekly telework.
  • This is a restricted position. Continued employment is contingent upon continued funding.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education training and experience
  • Familiarity with the higher education environment.
  • Superb customer service skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills required to balance a variety of tasks and manage multiple priorities. Must deploy multi-tasking skills in a very busy office environment.
  • Employs tact when interacting with individuals at all levels, both on the university campus and in the business community.
  • Effective communication skills (includes both written and oral); ability to act with diplomacy, and tact.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Mail/Calendar. Beginning level is required; an intermediate level is desired.
  • Ability to use database systems, e.g. Handshake, Symplicity, as well as project management systems, e.g. AirTable, Asana
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to synthesize new information, incorporate, and apply to across tasks
  • Ability to handle confidential situations properly and manage confidential data appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a University Career Center or career services office on a college campus
  • Experience with Handshake or similar Career Services database systems
  • Experience with project management systems and record keeping
  • Prior experience supervising part-time, full-time, or student staff members. 

Salary Range: Up to $40,000
