Job Description
The Executive Assistant performs a wide variety of activities required to provide exceptional administrative assistance to Strategic Research Alliances (SRA) and its personnel. Reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Research Alliances, primary responsibilities include management of the Vice President’s, Assistant Vice President's, and office personnel schedules; making travel arrangements for office personnel; and preparing for meetings and presentations to ensure that the Strategic Research Alliances unit operates in an informed and effective manner. This position responds to inquiries based on broad knowledge of the university across all of its campuses, manages and coordinates all correspondence to appropriate senior SRA leadership and external stakeholders. The Executive Assistant also serves as an effective liaison with Virginia Tech contacts within the greater DC area locations, Blacksburg main campus, and Roanoke campus, and supports the activities of the office in a professional organized, and efficient manner, while handling confidential and sensitive matters with the utmost discretion. Excellent judgment and independent decision-making skills must be used to ensure integrity and professionalism within Strategic Research Alliances.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience supporting senior management position
• Advanced computer skills including experience with database management programs (such as MS Access/Excel/Powerpoint) and word processing software (such as MS Word)
• Proficiency in collaboration and demonstrated ability to receive directions and work independently as needed
• Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong customer-service orientation
• Professional communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all individuals in a diverse multicultural environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Administrative experience supporting a research-related or advocacy-related environment
• Certification as an administrative professional
