Job Duties


• Supervises/monitors all employees within span of authority in a professional manner in accordance with policy.
• Maintains performance files with proper documentation on all supervised staff.
• Addresses performance issues as they occur and commend staff in a timely manner
• Completes assigned performance evaluation by established deadlines and within standards identified by Human Resources.
• Assures that new staff complete pre-service orientation and current staff complete annual re-training.
• Assures that staffs are trained on all areas of their assigned duties; and
• Acts as role model in all areas of performance.
• Meets all requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system.
• Leads development of departmental mission, goals and programming.
• Maintains effective ET programs.
• Implements departmental performance improvement (PI) initiatives.
• Establishes ET policies and procedures.
• Manages resources and budget for ET programs.
• Provides supervision to department members.
• Supports department members’ on-going development through attendance at training and educational opportunities.
• Manages intern program to support positive learning experiences for students and the development of supervisory skills for department members.
• Meets with the Director of PSR to develop and improve his/her own professional skills.
• Provides 1:1 and group interventions to individuals.
• Participates in treatment team activities as needed.
• Evaluates individuals following established procedures.
• Documents on individuals following established procedures.
• Provides treatment team coverage as needed
• Participates in PSR activities.
• Educates hospital staff about ET services.
• Participates in hospital wide committees or workgroups.

Minimum Qualifications

• Degree in an expressive therapy modality or a master’s degree in a related field plus graduate coursework and supervised field experience in expressive therapy required.
• Demonstrated experience providing expressive therapy services to individuals with mental illness in a clinical setting required, including evaluating progress, establishing treatment interventions, and assessing the effectiveness of those interventions.
• For Art Therapists: Registered Art Therapist (ATR) required.
• For Dance/Movement Therapists: Registration as a Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT) required.
• For Music Therapists: Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) required.
• Knowledge of the principles, techniques and methods used in Expressive Therapy.
• Knowledge of the principles and methods of basic statistics.
• Ability to evaluate and report progress of individuals served.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other employees and guide ET staff, students and volunteers.
• Ability to plan and administer facility wide ET services in coordination with other treatment programs.
• Knowledge of management techniques.


Additional Considerations

• Graduate degree in an expressive therapy modality (Art, Music, or Dance/Movement) preferred.
• For Art Therapists: Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) preferred.
• For Dance/Movement Therapists: Board Certification as a Dance/Movement Therapist (BC-DMT) preferred.
• Previous experience with Trauma Informed Practices strongly preferred.
