Job Duties
The Department of Computer Science at Norfolk State University is seeking applications for a 9-month Instructor for the Computer Science position at the rank of an instructor to begin in August 2025. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and teach undergraduate computer science courses. Contribute to program and curriculum development and review and assess program for effectiveness. Participate in recruitment activities. Participate in ongoing assessment and accreditation activities. Promote student development and academic achievement through advising, mentoring, and tutoring. Maintain student records, respecting FERPA and other privacy standards consistent with accrediting agency standards. Hold office hours and attend department, college, and university meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or higher in computer science, or a related field at the time of appointment.
Considerable knowledge and skills in teaching in computer science related courses are expected.
Alternatively, strong potential to gain such knowledge and skills through education, practical training, or research background will also be considered.
Demonstrated ability to communicate to a diverse student-body audience, both verbally and in writing, with emphasis applied to commitment to diversity.
Additional Considerations
Industry experience or a demonstrated record of research through publications or grants in the computer science disciplines.
Teaching experience or active research in computer science.
Considerable experience with student recruitment and retention.
Possesses ability to collect and analyze student related data, especially recruitment, retention, graduation data, and to effectively write reports.
