Job Description:

Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning.  Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.

Provide strategic leadership and coordination for implementing a college-wide facilities maintenance management program. Direct Facilities operations and future planning/development of College facilities. Establish procedures for maintenance, repair and/or replacement of College facilities, grounds, systems, and equipment. Provide management and oversight of development, implementation, and management of College operations for building and grounds, custodial/janitorial, and environmental health and safety.

Position reports to and receives general direction from the VP of Finance and Administration and works closely with college leadership in all aspects of facilities and grounds.

Position is considered “essential personnel” and may be required to work during an emergency or other times when the college/campus is closed for inclement weather and facilities infrastructure issues (HVAC, electrical, plumbing/water, etc.)

• Ability to establish and adhere to schedules and budgets; report on project status; establish, monitor, and enforce established policies and procedures; make staffing assignments to support workload demands for Buildings and Grounds; interact with college, county, and state officials; and ensure compliance with state codes and standards.
• Working knowledge of statutes on safety principles, procedures, and techniques
• Ability to give oral and written instructions and to react appropriately when assisting the Police/Security department in routine and emergency situations.
• Knowledge of administration and management of facilities planning, building construction and renovation, and building and ground maintenance programs to include janitorial and landscaping
• Knowledge of procurement, preferably an electronic purchase order system such as the state’s procurement system eVa.
• Ability to supervise and direct the work of technical staff to meet the needs of the college, and the ability to work with college faculty, staff, and students in determining needs and expectations.
• Ability to create and implement a comprehensive safety plan to provide a safe work environment.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and computer skills including the ability to work with standard Microsoft office software as well as software unique to the facilities administration
• Prior experience in interpretation of Architectural drawings
• Valid driver’s license required and reliable transportation.
• Experience in planning and development of facilities maintenance, construction, and mitigating work hazards.
• Experience in the supervision of technical and building trades.
