Job Duties
The Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the Virginia Military Institute invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level beginning August 2022.
A completed or about to be completed Ph.D. in computer science is required. Preferred fields include, but are not limited to, human-centric computing, artificial intelligence, and algorithms. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate courses at both at the introductory and advanced levels and establish a research program in their area of expertise in which undergraduates are actively involved.
CIS at VMI has state-of-the-art laboratories and emphasizes teaching excellence, experiential learning and undergraduate research. We are embarking on an era of exceptional growth where cyber studies are being recognized as pivotal to all disciplines and vital to all aspects of modern societies from smart cities and critical infrastructures, to scientific computing, to big-data analytics and social computing, to mobile and location-based services in healthcare, transportation, etc.
The current VMI BS in Computer Science degree program is dynamically evolving into an applied program anchored in cyber security, interactive computing, intelligent systems, and computational data science and engineering. Individuals hired will have significant input into the growth process as advancements in computer and information sciences and technology continue to drive the future and dictate changes in computing curricula.
VMI is a state-supported coeducational undergraduate military college of 1600+ students, with a strong commitment to produce the next generation of leaders in the sciences, engineering, humanities, and social sciences. VMI is located in Lexington, VA, which is a beautiful historic town in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Washington and Lee University is located adjacent to VMI. The area is well-known for its educational, cultural, and natural amenities.
Faculty wear military uniforms but prior military service is not required.
Minimum Qualifications
A completed or about to be completed Ph.D. in computer science or computer engineering is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred fields include, but are not limited to, cyber security, data analytics, mobile computing, and human-centric computing.
