The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine invites applications for several new tenure-eligible faculty positions on the Academic Investigator (AI) track. Academic rank and tenure status will depend on qualifications and experience. Successful applicants will be expected to build and maintain cutting-edge research programs in the broad areas of cell biology and/or developmental biology, and to participate in our graduate and medical school teaching missions.

Investigators in the Department of Cell Biology are using diverse model systems to address a variety of questions in cell and developmental biology. Current research strengths and interests include membrane trafficking, cytoskeletal dynamics, cell adhesion and motility, cellular homeostasis, mechanotransduction, cell fate specification, morphogenesis and regeneration, developmental genomics, and stem cell models of development and developmental disorders. Candidates working in these and all other areas of cell and developmental biology are encouraged to apply.

The Department of Cell Biology strives to build and sustain a diverse and supportive community of faculty, trainees and staff. We value a culture of fairness and inclusion, and believe this helps make us better scientists and educators.

Qualified candidates will hold Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees, have completed a minimum of three years of postdoctoral training, and can demonstrate a track record of exceptional research accomplishment. Abundant opportunities exist for interdisciplinary and translational research collaborations with other investigators in the Department of Cell Biology, the School of Medicine, UVA Health, and more broadly across the University. Prospective faculty members can draw from an outstanding and diverse pool of graduate and MD/PhD students from the interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences (BIMS) program.
