DEPARTMENTAL SALARY HIRING RANGE: $67,516 - $86,353 Annually

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Under limited supervision, performs supervisory and administrative work overseeing the activities of multiple social work service programs administered through the City Social Services Department.  Primary designation is in the Child Protective Service unit.  Tasks include directing, coordinating, and supervising the activities of the divisions’ family services workers and clerical support staff, assigning cases and special projects and ensuring adherence to program regulations and policies. Employee is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of multiple social work service programs offered by the City Social Services Department, and recommending changes, as necessary; monitoring the budget expenditures for the program, and for preparing various reports, statistical records, participates in local and regional partnerships. Responsible for reviewing, evaluating and directing Child Protective Services Family Services Workers.  Position may require carrying a CPS caseload when needed.  Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Assistant Director for Services.  This position will require training in and possible work in other areas of the Family Services Division.  Position also requires participation in a shared on-call rotation and sheltering during emergency events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

-Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area.

-Considerable experience in assigned program area/human services programs and completion of required training programs.

-Supervisory experience or work   experience in a leadership role

-Equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

- Requires a valid driver’s license.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-Prefer master’s degree in social work, sociology, public administration, psychology, or a related field and extensive professional social work experience.

-Prefer working knowledge of VA DSS Adult Services, Adult Protective Services, Family Services Intake, and Crisis Intervention practices.

-Prefer working knowledge of VA DSS case documentation systems such as OASIS, Peer Place, etc. and experience monitoring cases.

-Prefer completion of Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitation required trainings

-Prefer experience with APS and CPS On-Call duties.

-Prefer supervisory experience or experience which reflects increased responsibilities due to varied and progressive assignments in a VA DSS.
