The Department of Computer Science in the School of Engineering is seeking a Finance Associate. The UVA Department of Computer Science is a nationally recognized leader in computer science research and education. Our department includes over 60 faculty members, over 200 graduate students and 1400 undergraduates. Faculty are active in fundamental computer science and engineering research and are engaged in interdisciplinary initiatives with scientists, humanists, engineers in other disciplines and medical personnel. Our graduate students transition from students to collaborators through participation in world-class research projects. Our undergraduates are involved in research and are enriched by an integrated and challenging curriculum.

The successful candidate will be expected to efficiently perform the following duties:
Purchasing and Payment Processing (75%)
Place orders for department purchases
Assist with department equipment purchases
Checking account balances to ensure funds are available to make requested purchases
Process PO’s, Travel Reimbursements, Marketplace Orders, Catering Orders, and Cost Transfers
Maintain records as needed
Process purchasing card transactions on monthly basis.
Advise faculty, staff and students on purchasing, travel, and general reimbursements
Position requires basic level of sponsored funding purchasing rules and guidelines

Complete and submit reconciliation reports for projects each month
Collect all missing documentation for recording/reporting purposes
Run reports as needed
Initiate cost transfers as needed
Correspondence & Other Administrative duties (1 0 %)
Work with external vendors and internal service providers
Communicate with vendors on purchasing transactions and troubleshoot orders, as needed.
Assist CS staff with other administrative tasks or projects as needed.
May be needed to assist with front office coverage during lunch breaks or for staff absences

Qualified candidates must have at least 2 years of finance/accounting experience (preferably in an academic setting) and a high school diploma.

Applicants must be highly organized and have excellent analytical and numerical ability, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to record and report financial and budget data clearly and accurately, set and adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in higher education. Familiarity with internal systems is a plus.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs on grounds.
This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.
