The Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health (Institute) is seeking a highly qualified and skilled Finance Manager to manage a diverse funding portfolio, which may include educational and general funds, facilities and administrative costs recoveries, clinical earning contributions, gifts and endowments, and other restricted and unrestricted funds supporting the Institute’s mission. The Finance Manager will report directly to the COO with broader reporting responsibilities to the Institute Director and other Institute leadership. The incumbent will support the Institute in all aspects of financial management and monitoring, and is expected to independently reconcile fiscal transactions, prepare financial information and report on fiscal and budgetary matters for the Institute. The position will help develop internal budgeting and financial reporting processes, and will be empowered to make recommendations on process improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

Partner with Institute leadership to provide robust monthly and quarterly financial performance reporting.
Clearly communicate a cohesive and concise story on the drivers of financial performance and related implications on current and projected results.
Evaluate and assess key operational issues, risks and drivers pertaining to budget, actual and forecast updates, suggesting solutions and alternatives to improve/create operational efficiency and financial performance.
Key contributor in quarterly forecast/annual budgeting and planning process.
Manage month-end reporting activities, investigations of significant variances, and communication of findings to key stakeholders.
Provide detailed year-end expenditure projections, work closely with Institute leadership to mitigate risk and resolve issues.
Drive reporting process improvements and enhance data transparency to provide timely and accurate financial information to Institute leadership.
Analyze fiscal transactions for compliance to federal, state and VCU policies and regulations.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. Extensive knowledge of financial management and fundamental accounting principles and practices. Demonstrated ability to monitor the use of multiple fund sources. Exposure to grants and contracts management is a plus. Familiarity with the Banner Finance system or other higher education enterprise resource package to include the reporting tools and functions in summarizing data and information. Proficient in using Excel to extract and present financial data. Ability to perform analyses of complex financial, quantitative, and non-quantitative data. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and work with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a large, diverse and complex organization.
