Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This position will advise students, parents, and the general public regarding federal, state, and college wide financial aid resources. To determine initial eligibility in all areas of (grant, loans, scholarships, work study, etc.) for individual students. Provide and clarify financial aid information, requirements, and application procedures. Assists with the college scholarship and work-study programs as needed. Conduct workshops providing information regarding financial aid policies and procedures to new and continuing students in individual group settings, on and off campus.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Knowledge and understanding of the community college mission and the financial aid office, as it relates to enrollment and support services. • Knowledge of federal and state educational financial aid programs. • Knowledge of state and federal policies regarding FERPA, and PNPI. • Ability to interpret student financial aid reports and other verification documents. • Ability to meet and assist the public in a courteous and helpful manner. • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to interpret/ explain policies and procedures concerning all financial aid programs. • Knowledge of conflict resolution methods and ability to mediate and resolve conflicts regarding student financial aid. • Skill in researching and resolving questions and problems as they relate to financial aid. • Ability to work independently and in a team environment to better serve students. • Ability to use a variety of software programs including configuring/interpreting databases/spreadsheets. • Demonstrated understanding of complex student information system and other information technology applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred. • Experience and knowledge with People-soft Student Information System preferred. • Experience in high volume financial aid customer service environment preferred.
