The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks applicants for a Financial Analyst or Senior Financial Analyst to join the finance team. This position will be part of a highly innovative team that supports the 14 different divisions within the Department of Pediatrics to provide the data needed to make data driven decisions. The incumbent will also support the Department in budgeting and long-term planning and provide timely and insightful financial analysis to Department leadership. The position will oversee the creation and management of monthly reports, as well as produce ad hoc analysis.

The Financial Analyst will develop, interpret, and implement highly complex financial and accounting concepts and techniques for financial planning and control. They direct development and implementation of new concepts and techniques for financial information analysis.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Gather and organize information from a variety of sources to report on financial data in a routine manner as well as produce ad hoc analysis.
• Partner with billing team to audit billing operation and assure effectiveness of controls.
• Understand the clinical operation and create and monitor controls to assure optimal financial performance.
• Provide expert advice and interpretation regarding all levels of financial activity.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute policy implementation applicable to the installation of improved financial operations.
• Provide specialized technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance.
• Assess the Department’s past performance to provide an estimate of future performance.
• Study financial data to prepare forecasts of economic conditions and prepare financial reports.
• Contribute to the clinical budget creation of the Department.
• Stay up-to-date on national trends and regulations, in particular for clinical billing.
• Follow crucial economic, industrial, and corporate movements.
• Utilize advance Excel and other relevant tools to enhance the analysis and data presentation.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualified candidates must have:
Financial Analyst:
Education: High School Diploma, Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Experience: At least one year of experience.
Licensure: CMA, CFA, CTP, or CPA is typically acquired while in the position.

Senior Financial Analyst:
Education: Bachelor's degree in finance related field
Experience: Five years of experience.
Licensure: CMA, CFA, CTP, or CPA is typically possessed or acquired while in the position.

Required skills:
• Proficiency in Excel

Preferred experience:
• Previous experience with data management or data analytics.
• Experience using Epic.

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The Financial Analyst will report to Elizabeth Shifflett, Chief Operating Officer, Department of Pediatrics. Anticipated Hiring Range: For Financial Analyst level - range is $50-55K and for senior level range is $80-85K commensurate with education and experience.
The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.
