The Fire Protection Department of UVA's Facilities Management is seeking a Fire Systems Inspections Supervisor to support Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities. Fire Systems Inspection Supervisors are responsible for the supervision of service and inspection crews and maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems. They have extensive knowledge and experience maintaining complex and critical fire systems ensuring all are installed, maintained, inspected, and tested in accordance with required state and local codes. Fire Systems Supervisors typically maintain a Fire Protection NICET Level II Certification. They are responsible for the performance management of all fire system technicians assigned. Fire Systems Supervisors function independently only receiving guidance from supervision on special projects. Fire Systems Supervisors oversee the service and inspection of fire protection systems in all academic, student housing and healthcare facilities that keep students, staff, patients, and visitors safe throughout the University.

Responsibilities:
  • Mentor, coach and supervise lower-level Fire System Technicians.
  • Oversee the Inspections and testing program for all fire protection systems within university properties.
  • Perform/support Fire alarm and fire suppression system commissioning inspections and testing for construction and renovation projects ensuring compliance with life safety and state codes.
  • Ensure University fire systems are installed, maintained, inspected, and tested in accordance with required state and local codes.
  • Prioritize fire systems Inspection and testing schedules.
  • Maintain Inventory of spare materials stock.
  • Work with Construction Project Management to schedule, complete, and document construction inspections.
  • Ensure compliance and follow all safety rules for department and EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for ensuring that employees are trained in compliance with departmental guidelines, equipment operations, maintenance, and safety training.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.


Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Six years relevant experience, including considerable experience supervising.
Licensure: Fire Protection NICET Level II Certification OR electrical or mechanical licensure Valid drivers license.

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $35.00 - $39.00 per hour. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to the start date of the position.

Physical Demands:

This job requires traveling, climbing stairs and driving from job site to job site conducting inspections as a working supervisor.
