The University of Virginia, College of Arts and Sciences , seeks applications for a full-time, twelve-month Lecturer (non-tenure track) position beginning May 25, 2023 for a term of one year with the possibility of renewal. The position carries the administrative title of First-Year Programs Coordinator. The College offers a range of academic programs for incoming first-year students to support their successful transition to the University of Virginia. The teaching load of this position includes teaching assignments during the summer (prior to first-year student matriculation), as well as fall and spring terms across a range of courses (ranging from 1-3 credits). The administrative duties associated with the position include working closely with the director of First-Year and Summer Programs to plan, implement, and assess programs.
The successful candidate will have a M.A. in a liberal arts discipline, specifically within the humanities or social sciences. A minimum of two years teaching experience at the college level and demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with diverse undergraduate students is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching first-year students from diverse backgrounds in the fields of writing, critical thinking, and academic skills.
