Job Description
Reporting to the Business Manager to serve as Fiscal Technician for the Department of Statistics. Fiscal duties involve maintaining financial records and processing transactions for a number of accounts, including operating, salary, overhead, startup and Virginia Tech Foundation accounts in addition to research grant funds. Responsible for reconciling all accounts monthly in accordance with State and University guidelines.
This position is also responsible for all department purchases, verifying the correctness of invoices and processing them for payment. This position manages travel arrangements for faculty, staff, graduate students and department visitors. This position processes communication network requests, provides support for scholarship administration and disposes of surplus property. Position will also provide general administrative duties for the department.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and/or experience in business with a concentration in accounting.
Fiscal and/or administrative support experience in an academic or professional office environment.
Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
Ability to multitask and work under pressure with strict deadlines required.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated proficiency with financial and human resources information systems such as Banner or equivalent software.
Experience such as working with payroll, travel reimbursement, and management of fixed assets.
Knowledge of university fiscal policies and procedures.
Demonstrated multitasking, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to audit, reconcile, detect errors, inconsistencies or discrepancies.
Ability to work independently with little supervision, strong customer service orientation.
