Job Description

Fralin Life Sciences Institute (FLSI) is one of four investment institutes at Virginia Tech. Our mission is to support research, education & training, and outreach efforts through strategic investment initiatives. FLSI is guided by three principles: (1) maximize return on investment to the university; (2) align with broader University initiatives, including the Beyond Boundaries Strategic Plan and the Office of Research & Innovation’s Four Frontiers; and (3) elevate Virginia Tech as a global leader in the environmental life sciences. Our strategic investments support four primary research centers, 5 affiliated research centers, graduate education training, seed funding, and administrative and financial support for 5 research buildings.  We are looking for someone to join our administrative support team as a front desk member of the flagship building, Steger Hall. This is a part-time position (average 25-30 hours/week), with a flexible, on-site schedule M-F, between 8 am – 5 pm.

The Front Desk Support Specialist will serve as a member of the Front Desk Support Group at Fralin Life Sciences Institute (FLSI) reporting to the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director. The position is a part-time wage position and will be primarily responsible for supporting various front desk activities, such as opening and closing procedures, greeting customers, answering the phone, providing security and calendaring assistance, and conference facilities scheduling and support. During times of high volume, absence, or as needed, this position will provide general administrative assistance to the Executive Assistant in support of Institute leadership and event-related tasks. This position will require an on-site presence.

Required Qualifications

Experience with administrative support duties in a multifaceted fast-paced office environment performing tasks such as: greeting clients, calendaring, preparing documents, supporting events, etc; Demonstrated strong customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work seamlessly with team members and independently on own tasks. Demonstrated computer proficiency with software such as Microsoft software products and Google email, calendar and applications. Must be dependable, highly organized, detailed-oriented, be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and possess excellent time management skills. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with administrative duties in support of high-level administrators.
