Job Description
Explore a career in charitable gift planning with Virginia Tech’s award-winning Advancement program by joining one of the university’s most seasoned fundraising units. The Gift Planning team at Virginia Tech offers the opportunity to help the university’ alumni and friends discover how easy and meaningful it can be to experience the joy of making significant gifts to Virginia Tech.
With the guidance of the Assistant Vice President of Gift Planning and the Director of Gift Planning, the Gift Planning Officer will be responsible for implementing a plan to discover and follow up on prospective donors who may be interested in considering gifts through wills, non-cash gifts, and life income plans.
The Gift Planning Officer will fulfill these duties by partnering with the university’s Marketing, Communications, and other Advancement professionals with specific expertise to execute projects that promote the ways of giving and encourage prospective donors to seek more information or to share information about existing gifts. The Gift Planning Officer will also work with the various colleges and units on campus as well as the University’s Cornerstone Alumni – those who have graduated more than 50 years ago – to explore opportunities to engage in activities to promote the ways of giving and encourage others to reach out for more information.
In addition, the Gift Planning Officer will have responsibility for ensuring follow up on leads generated by these activities in order to explore potential gift conversations. Such follow up efforts will include the coordination of responses to bequest notifications and requests for information, monitoring efforts of other gift officers to attempt to engage these leads, and personally engaging a select group of leads.
