Job Description
The Graduate Admissions and Academic Progress advisor provides program support for graduate admission applications and academic progress to degree, with a specific focus on Innovation Campus graduate programs. Responsibilities include advising prospective and current graduate students, serving as a liaison with academic units and campus partners, interpreting and applying Graduate School and university policies, working with confidential student information, and providing general office support through telephone, email and in person appointments.
Required Qualifications
• Work experience providing academic advising to students.
• Work experience with computer software packages and applications, including fluency with Google Forms and Google Apps for Education.
• Work experience with a relational database such as Banner.
• Work experience interpreting and communicating policies.
• Earned bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people including administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement and make informed decisions in complex situations.
Preferred Qualifications
• Earned master’s degree in higher education administration or relevant field.
• Administrative support experience in a higher education setting.
• Work experience in graduate admissions, advising graduate students, and working with international students.
• Work experience with Banner student.
• Work experience with Slate.
• Knowledge of Virginia Tech policies/procedures.
