Provides administrative support in a team environment for the Department of Management; principal administrative support to the Ph.D. Program Director; primary point of contact for graduate and undergraduate student hiring and supervision for the department.
Works with the Department Head, faculty, administrative staff, and graduate students in performing the operations of the Management department and Ph.D. Program. Graduate programs support includes administration of Ph.D. admissions and academic progress; support for the Ph.D. Program Director, students, and Graduate Studies Committee; administration of graduate contract, tuition, awards, and curriculum processes; maintenance of graduate program records; and navigation of Graduate School policies and procedures.
General support encompasses coordination of faculty activities, travel, and reimbursement; departmental event planning; administrative liaison to curriculum, hiring, and other committees as needed; support for fiscal operations of the department; drafting, proofreading, and editing documents; occasional data analysis and reporting; and records management.
Student hiring support encompasses hiring graduate assistants for department and faculty support; recruiting, hiring, and wage approvals for undergraduate student employees; and management of a team of undergraduate office assistants.
Previous experience providing administrative support in an academic or professional office environment; experience with computer software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and email; strong organizational skills; ability to work independently while functioning as a team member; strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience managing confidential files and materials; demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple deadlines while maintaining attention to detail; strong competency in writing, grammar, composition, and proofreading.
Experience with computer systems and programs such as, PageUp, Banner, Canvas, HokieMart and University Purchasing systems; demonstrated knowledge of University operating procedures and graduate program functions.
