The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a Grants and Contracts Specialist to join our team of experienced professionals. This position offers the opportunity to work in partnership with faculty as they engage their research programs and navigate a complex landscape of sponsored funding, seeking to understand and interpret sponsor priorities, requirements, and accountability mechanisms. Successful candidates will be prepared to take on the responsibility of processing funding proposals or award amendments, financial management and post award responsibilities, and serve as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders. Pre-Award Administration
Manage submission of grant proposals
Work with faculty to develop budgets in accordance with sponsor and University policies.
Review research and sponsored programs related documents at proposal stage to ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines; identify issues, coordinate revisions and corrections with investigators (both internal and external).
Coordinate subcontract documents.
Liaise with investigators, internal/external collaborators, and grants offices.
Assist investigators and research staff with submission of just in time requests, progress/final reports, and non-funded agreements.
Provide guidance to faculty and staff in understanding applicable award policies and obligations, and ensure compliance with state, Federal and University rules, regulations, policies, and practices.
Post-Award Administration
Assist in the management of sponsored projects, including account review, expenditure planning, and time and effort planning.
Review award guidelines; interpret sponsor terms and conditions; provide compliance guidance to investigators.
Serve as internal liaison ensuring that all funds are set up in a timely manner; prepare any necessary at-risk accounts; no-cost extensions; and ensure that funds are carried forward as appropriate.
Provide accurate funding reports to Investigators.
Prepare and track subcontract forms, financials, and requirements.
Provide oversight of internally funded grants.
Manage sponsored funding labor distribution.
Coordinate and review effort reporting.
Review and approve sponsored funding T&E card submissions and reimbursements.
Perform monthly account reconciliations.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree and 2 years of related work experience OR 4 years of related work experience
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and maintain quality of work
