Summary:
The Graphic Design and Marketing Graduate Assistant supports the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA). The GA will assist in planning, coordinating, and executing graphic design and marketing efforts. This graduate assistant will be responsible for a variety of marketing initiatives including advertising, promotions, campus outreach, social media, and video creation.
Typical Duties
• Design publicity and promotional materials, such as event/program fliers, program brochures, promotional videos, etc. for the office.
• Design posters and fliers for cultural heritage month events and cultural achievement ceremonies sponsored by OMSA.
• Develop a social media campaign to enhance the online-presence of OMSA and promote the programs and initiatives sponsored by the office.
• Draft write-ups about events to campus media resources, such as the Telegram, RamsConnect, and Commonwealth Times. Knowledgeable in utilization of social media engagement and analytics.
• Serve on committees, task force, or work groups as assigned by the supervisor of this position or by the director of OMSA.
• Collaborate with two (2) Work Study undergraduate student employees.
• Attend and assist with office events and programs as assigned.
• All other duties as assigned by the supervisor of this position or the Director of OMSA.
Typical Education and Experience
• Creative self-starter who is comfortable with both taking initiative and working in collaboration.
• Ability to craft and execute a vision with creativity and style.
• Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks/projects in order to meet deadlines.
• Must be proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, & Photoshop and/or other common design applications.
• Must be energetic, task-oriented, and creative with a strong work ethic and positive attitude who communicates well with others and maintains a professional demeanor.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
REQUIREMENTS: • Be enrolled in graduate level courses at VCU full time (9 hrs or more).
• Candidates must attend a day-long position training.
• Candidates must work at least fifteen (15) hours per week during OMSA’s office hours (M-F 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.).
• Candidates must be able to attend one OMSA staff meeting per month and weekly 1:1 meetings with their supervisor.
• Ability to occasionally work evening hours (after 5 p.m.) is required.
• Strong knowledge and competence with Google Office and Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong knowledge and competence with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
