Description for Candidates:

  • Perform special duties as assigned. To support a variety of statewide traffic operations program initiatives involving delivering critical traffic assets such as transportation technology projects, innovative technology pilot programs, and resiliency improvements.

    How you will contribute:
  • Perform duties as assigned.: Perform duties, tasks, activities and/or projects as assigned.
  • Policies and Procedures: Support development or update of policies and procedures that ensure compliance with the federal and state project delivery requirements, the Code of Virginia and established traffic operations delivery and asset management best practices.
  • Project Management: Lead the project management activities for transportation technology study, design, and implementation activities, including but not limited to scope, schedule, and budget reviews. Includes timely update of VDOT stakeholders and systems.
  • Relationship Building: Support staff in developing effective relationships with districts, other VDOT teams and localities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences to include mediating difficult issues.
  • Ability to independently research, interpret, implement, and monitor technical policies and programs.
  • Skill in managing multiple complex activities. 
  • Skill in managing projects and programs.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to independently research, interpret, implement, and monitor technical policies and programs.
  • Skill in delivering training.
  • Skill in technical writing to include policy and technical specifications.
  • Skill in the use, design, installation, and operations/maintenance of transportation technologies and /or Transportation Systems Management Operations (TSMO).

  • Additional Considerations:
  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Program Management, or related field desired.
  • Knowledge of Transportation Systems Management Operations (TSMO).
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering asset management, inventory, and data collection.
  • Knowledge of transportation technologies.
