Position Title: Workforce Healthcare Instructor (CMA, CNA, PCT, Phlebotomy, EKG)

Position Purpose:

Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville, Virginia seeks a dynamic, student-focused Workforce Healthcare Instructor to deliver instruction in multiple short-term healthcare training programs, including Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Patient Care Technician (PCT), Phlebotomy, and EKG Technician. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position focused on classroom, lab, and clinical instruction for non-credit healthcare training that prepares students for certification and entry-level employment in allied health careers.

This position supports the College’s commitment to workforce development and access to in-demand healthcare careers and works collaboratively with college staff, employers, and clinical partners to ensure student success and program alignment with industry needs. This position is funded through the PVCC Foundation and Workforce operation funds for a period of 12 months from the date of hire. There may be potential for continued funding beyond 12 months based on program needs, position impact, and availability of resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach and assess students in CMA, CNA, PCT, Phlebotomy, and EKG Technician courses, including classroom, skills lab, and clinical instruction offered during the day, evening, and weekend.
  • Develop and revise course curriculum, materials lists, syllabi, and instructional plans to align with certification requirements and industry standards.
  • Maintain required clinical credentials, certifications, and compliance documentation for self and students.
  • Supervise students in clinical sites, including documentation of student progress, evaluation, and adherence to clinical facility standards.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum development, professional development, and program evaluation.
  • Assist with student advising, recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.
  • Ensure program quality across healthcare programs by providing instructional support to adjunct healthcare instructors and strengthening student completion and credential attainment efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, grades, and student outcomes data.
  • Work collaboratively with employers, advisory boards, and the Director of Workforce Programs to ensure program relevance and success.
  • Ensure compliance with Virginia Board of Nursing regulations and other relevant accrediting or certifying bodies, serving as PVCC’s Nurse Aide Coordinator.
  • Support the development of new course offerings, clinical partnerships, and instructional innovations in collaboration with the healthcare program manager.
  • Travel between instructional sites as needed; some evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an associate degree in nursing or a healthcare-related field.
  • Current licensure or certification in one or more of the following: Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), CMA (AAMA or RMA), CNA, Phlebotomy Technician (ASCP or NHA), EKG Technician.
  • Minimum of 2 years of occupational experience in direct patient care within the past 5 years.
  • Experience teaching adult learners or supervising clinical students in healthcare settings.
  • Ability to teach a variety of entry-level allied health topics and skills.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to student success, access, and equity in workforce training.

Additional Considerations:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nursing, education, or a related field.
  • Teaching experience in a community college or workforce education setting.
  • Experience in curriculum development and using a Learning Management System (e.g. Canvas).
  • Working knowledge of the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • Experience coordinating clinical rotations and working with employer partners.
  • Knowledge of FastForward, WIOA, and other workforce development funding programs.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency.
