Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVa's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.We are seeking an Historic Mason for Capital Construction & Renovations (CC&R). The Mason performs work of moderate difficulty in the repair of construction including preservation site practices of historic structures.
Responsibilities:
Construct, repair, or demolish concrete bases, walls, floors, chimneys, and sidewalks, by hand and using power tools of the trade.
Prepare and mix materials according to specifications.
Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, National Electrical Code, and The Joint Commission.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Four years of relevant experience.
Working knowledge of the methods of Masonry and skill in the use of hand tools and portable power tools relating to this trade.
Demonstrated ability to read, write, perform basic math, fractions, decimals and understand blueprints, sketches, and specifications.
Working skill in the use of equipment relating to construction trade, such as masonry saws, mortar mixes and portable power tools.
Ability to work from heights and exert a great amount of physical effort in working from scaffolding and swing stages.
Ability to preserve and restore historical structures/elements using historical appropriate materials.
Working knowledge of the methods of Historic Preservation Repair and proper materials in its use.
Ability to work overtime which could include nights and weekends and the ability to respond on an emergency basis as needed.
Compensation:
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $22.50 - $26.50/hour. This is a full-time, overtime-eligible position with UVA benefits. Employees benefits package highlights include:

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks and health screen prior to the start date of the position.
Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties as a mason.
