Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is committed to hiring and retaining a racially diverse, culturally competent staff at all levels of the organization who reflect the demographics of our students. We also believe in providing an ongoing investment in our faculty and staff to deepen their skills and competencies to serve the full range of our student population.

Reynolds recently re-envisioned its horticulture program and will begin offering classes at nationally recognized Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia. The program will include access to Lewis Ginter’s gardens, facilities, and plant collections. Together, Reynolds faculty, Lewis Ginter, and other local industry partners will design and implement a contemporary and impactful horticulture program to feed the community and workforce needs regionally and beyond.

This work will be led, in large part, by a full-time faculty member who will also serve as Department Chair. This position is needed to begin the Spring 2025 semester (January 2025 start date). The primary responsibility is teaching. Faculty hired in this position will be required to teach courses in the horticulture program. Faculty loads are normally scheduled on an average of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester. Office hours, advising and collateral duty assignments are maintained. The person in this role will also serve as the primary liaison with Lewis Ginter staff to ensure program success and limit potential conflicts such as scheduling, plant and material use, etc. Teaching schedules may include day and evening classes and multiple campus and off-campus/ on-line assignments. Opportunities for summer teaching will be based on student interest.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s in Horticulture or related field or a Master’s degree in any field with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in horticulture or related field.
Additional Considerations:

We are seeking qualified candidates for a faculty position in the horticulture department. Ideal candidates will possess the following preferred qualifications and experiences:

  • A Master’s or Ph.D. in horticulture or related field is highly preferred.

  • Experience utilizing a learning management system to enhance the classroom experience.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working effectively with diverse, multicultural and K-12 populations to support inclusion and cultural understanding.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with industry partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and apply for funding opportunities.
  • Previous teaching experience in horticulture is highly preferred.
