HOURLY ATHLETIC TRAINER
The hourly Athletic Trainer for the Recreation & Well-Being Department (RecWell) provides evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for student participants in the sport club program, which encompasses approximately 27 clubs and 1,200 participants annually. This position will be primarily responsible for providing athletic training services and coverage to designated high-impact sport club home events. There will also be some available evening shifts in the athletic training clinic from 5:30pm-8:30pm throughout the week. This position will report directly to the Athletic Training Coordinator.
PAY RATE: $30/hour
POSITION: This position is hourly, not exceeding 20 hours per week. Hours will be determined based on event coverage needs for the week. The start date for this position is immediate.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Program Management (75%)
Assist in providing athletic training services for the sport club program, including providing on-site supervision and care for “high-risk” club practices and home events and providing weekly office hours for scheduled or drop-in appointments for sport club participants
Assist with determining (with physician’s consultation) sport club participant’s ability to return to play; develop and maintain communication with sport club coaches and/or club officers
Assisting with coordinating all medical referrals for advanced diagnostics, concussion treatment, and other serious injuries requiring advanced medical care
Maintain and manage records of sport club participants evaluated
Communicate frequently with the Athletic Training Coordinator to review and discuss club practice and competition schedules to ensure adequate coverage
Assist in administering baseline concussion testing to those participating on high-impact sport club teams
Risk Management (10%)
Hold evening clinic hours for drop-in appointments
Assist in injury prevention strategies to lower the risk of sport-related injuries throughout the season
General Administration (15%)
Maintain professional skill sets and certifications as appropriate for job responsibilities and as a campus recreation professional
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
National certification through the NATA BOC (National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification)
Commonwealth of Virginia Licensure or ability to obtain prior to start date
First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
Ability to work evenings and weekends
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
