The School of Pharmacy, Department of Medicinal Chemistry invites you to apply for our Hourly Research Assistant position! The successful candidate will be responsible for determining compounds effect on hemoglobin oxygen binding properties. This task involves adding compounds to whole blood samples. The blood compound mixture will be analyzed with a tonometer and blood gas analyzer to determine the effect of the compound on Hb oxygen affinity. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in production of proteins for functional, biophysical, and crystallographic studies.
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment and commitment to do so as a professional employee at VCU.
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or equivalent field of study.
Hepatitis B vaccination prior to beginning work.
Some laboratory work experience with general lab skills which includes but is not limited to making buffers, compound’s molar solutions, techniques involved in protein purification, PAGE, protein or enzyme activity assays.
