Job Duties

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary floor surfaces throughout the facility, ensuring a healthy and comfortable environment for veterans, staff, and visitors. This role supports infection prevention and enhances the overall appearance and safety of the facility. This role will be responsible for cleaning and servicing resident rooms, baths, and all areas of the facility. Will dust furniture and equipment, clean windowsills, empty trash, and arranges furniture as needed. Performs a variety of related duties in resident areas. Performs floor, carpet and upholstery care.Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation methods, materials, and equipment used in healthcare or long-term care facilities.

Understanding of floor maintenance procedures, including stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet care.

Knowledge of proper chemical use, dilution, labeling, and storage in compliance with OSHA and infection control standards.

Familiarity with infection prevention and control practices in a healthcare setting.

Basic knowledge of safety and hazard communication standards (e.g., SDS, PPE usage).
Skill in operating and maintaining floor care and housekeeping equipment (e.g., buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, vacuums).

Strong attention to detail to ensure cleanliness and safety standards are consistently met.

Time management and organizational skills to complete tasks efficiently and according to schedule.

Interpersonal and communication skills to interact respectfully with residents, families, and staff.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, cleaning schedules, and safety protocols accurately.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate respect and compassion for residents, especially veterans.

Ability to identify and report maintenance or safety issues promptly.

Ability to adapt to changing priorities and perform additional duties as needed in a healthcare environment.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

Previous experience using cleaning chemicals

Experience in a healthcare, nursing home, or long-term care facility environment a plus

Experience performing floor maintenance (stripping, waxing, sealing, buffing, carpet cleaning) in a healthcare or high-traffic facility.

Familiarity with infection control and sanitation standards, especially in patient or resident care areas.

Prior experience complying with OSHA, HIPAA, and facility safety regulations
