Job Description: Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of HVAC Controls Technician / Trades Technician III (00393) in Facilities Management and Operations. The selected candidate will provide technical expertise and support on instrumentation and controls (I&C) for building HVAC systems, mechanical systems, energy generation, and distribution systems. Job responsibilities will include troubleshooting, installation, repair, programming, commissioning, diagnostics, building automation, energy management systems (BAS/EMS), and I&C. Also, the candidate will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, implementing, and programming new I&C technologies; ensuring reliability, service, efficiency, and efficacy of existing BAS/EMS and I&C; supporting the HVAC shop as needed. This position is considered to be emergency personnel, and must report to work or be called in due to inclement weather, in the case of emergency, staff shortage, etc.
This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Skilled in troubleshooting automated building controls, HVAC systems, devices, equipment, and sensors
- Ability to calibrate sensors and develop and implement test procedures
- Ability to develop and implement automated control strategies for building mechanical (HVAC) systems
- Ability to create control programs based on written sequences of operation
- Knowledge of heating, cooling, and ventilation (HVAC) equipment
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings (schematics), block diagrams, flow charts, service manuals, and wiring diagrams,
- Ability to create electrical, mechanical, and controls-related field sketches
- Highly skilled in the use of electronic and electrical testing devices
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze and solve practical problems in building systems and automated controls
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Effective oral and written communication skills
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma and/or GED with an equivalent combination of experience
- HVAC or Electrical Journeyman License
- Intermediate experience in a related trade or comparable work, including mechanical aptitude
- Must possess a Tridium N4 Certification or have the ability to obtain one within 12 months
- Must possess a Universal CFC Certification or have the ability to obtain one within 12 months
Additional Information:This is a full-time, classified, non-exempt position in pay band 3. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
