Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
We have an exciting opportunity for an HVAC Mechanic who performs journey level installation, repair, and maintenance on a variety of package and central heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Other duties include preventative maintenance; servicing, overhauling, and maintaining a variety of window and small package units or large central units; and determining equipment needs. HVAC Mechanics receive job assignments from a supervisor, however, most work is performed with little supervision.
Duties Include:
Perform HVAC installation and repairs, along with diagnostic and preventative maintenance on a variety of air conditioning units, ventilation equipment, and temperature and humidity controls, and refrigeration equipment.
Specify, estimate, and install equipment, refrigeration, and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.
Respond to emergency requests and be in an on-call rotation
Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, including current building codes.
Assist other trades and become familiar with various equipment and sequence of operation.
Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal, as assigned by the supervisor.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
The hiring range for this position is. $22.50 - $28.00 per hour (46,800.00 - $58,240.00 per year). Employees new to the University are eligible for a $2,500.00 sign on bonus. This is a full-time position with UVa benefits . Employees benefits package highlights include:

Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: A minimum four years of HVAC experience.
Licensure: Journeyman or higher HVAC license. Also, a valid Driver's license, with a zero or positive points balance.

Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, shovel, bend and twist in order to perform their work. The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks).The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable). Employee must walk around job sites. Employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions.
