Job Description
The Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) Communications Coordinator will create, implement, and manage the department’s communication efforts to support projects and people as it aligns with ICAT’s vision and strategic priorities. Reporting to the Executive Director of ICAT and working closely with the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing for Research and Innovation, this position will develop engaging content to tell the story of ICAT projects and community. The position requires someone with expert storytelling skills and writing experience. The Coordinator will develop content such as, but not limited to, news releases, social media posts, blog posts, website content, articles, and messaging. The person should have a deep understanding of engaging content and social media trends. The communications coordinator will develop and manage ICAT’s communications calendar and lead strategies, execution, and content development that highlights ICAT’s unique research contributions.
The ideal candidate will possess strong written and oral communication skills as well as outstanding editing and writing skills and will be able to work collaboratively in a team environment. The ICAT Communications Coordinator will be responsible for meeting deadlines and navigating multiple projects simultaneously. The person in this position will understand the importance of project documentation and processes associated with documentation including videography.

The Virginia Tech Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) is one of four research investment institutes, charged with bringing together faculty and students from across disciplines. ICAT provides funding, space, support, and expertise needed to advance arts integrative research at Virginia Tech. ICAT includes two research centers, the Center for Human-Computer Interaction and the Center for Educational Networks.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Social Media Writing, Multimedia Journalism, Advertising, Marketing or a related relevant degree or equivalent applicable experience and training
• Experience in developing and executing communication and marketing strategies
• Experience with digital content strategy and management, including content, social media or other web management systems
• Experience managing social media for a company or organization
• Experience working with multiple communication platforms in a professional setting
• Experience with PR and media relations
• Experience with science, arts or both communications
