Inpatient Charge Nurse (RN) - Acute General Medicine (3 Central)

Step into a leadership role where your clinical expertise and ability to guide teams directly shape patient outcomes in a high-acuity, fast-moving environment. This is an opportunity to lead from the front while remaining closely connected to patient care.

At UVA Health, nursing leadership is not about stepping away from the bedside-it is about elevating it. As an Inpatient Charge Nurse on 3 Central, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating care for medically complex patients while supporting and mentoring a highly collaborative nursing team. This is where clinical judgment, team leadership, and patient advocacy come together to make a measurable difference every single shift.

The Role:

In this Day Shift Charge Nurse position, you will serve as both a clinical leader and a steady resource for your peers on a dynamic Acute General Medicine unit. This unit cares for adult patients with a wide range of acute medical needs, including endocrine disorders, infectious diseases, renal conditions, and select cardiology cases.

You will serve as a dedicated Charge Nurse without a patient assignment, focused on leading the team and supporting unit-wide clinical operations

In practice, your day may include:
  • Leading daily operations for a fast-paced medical unit while ensuring safe, efficient patient flow
  • Supporting bedside RNs with clinical decision-making, prioritization, and escalation of care
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate treatment plans for complex patient populations
  • Managing admissions, discharges, and transfers with a focus on continuity and safety
  • Serving as a mentor and resource for nurses across varying levels of experience
  • Maintaining situational awareness across the unit to proactively address patient and staffing needs

This role offers a balance of leadership responsibility and direct clinical engagement, allowing you to influence both individual patient outcomes and broader team performance.
